Success and Why You Should Start With Why

Success-Start-With-Why

Success is an interesting study.

A few years ago I came across this great TED talk by Simon Sinek which I am sure you will enjoy so I have embedded the video below. Simon discusses his thoughts of why inspired and success focused companies always start with why. Please check it out and let me know your thoughts.

How does this apply to you today?

How do you think this idea applies to you personally? I believe, if we are to focus on “WHY” we do each thing we do as we go through a day then focus on tasks etc… that are true to our “WHY”, we build up that inner belief and desire to succeed.

Success with Why

Why is it that Martin Luther King led the Civil Rights Movement? He wasn’t the only man who suffered in pre-civil rights America, and he certainly wasn’t the only great orator of the day. Why him?

I love this example, Martin Luther King was inspired fully by his dream “I have a dream” it wasn’t I have a plan. Do you think if he had started with I have a plan as many people would have showed up? No, Why? They showed up because they believed in his “Why” they shared his desire for change. Martin Luther King was able to inspire and lead change because he told the people the “Why”.

If you want success in your life, spend sometime thinking about your “Why” What is it and are you currently living true to it?

Simon also has a book titled “Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action” It’s well worth a read.

If you look to politicians now, with their comprehensive 12-point plans. They’re not inspiring anybody. Because there are leaders and there are those who lead. Leaders hold a position of power or authority, but those who lead inspire us. Whether they’re individuals or organizations, we follow those who lead, not because we have to, but because we want to. We follow those who lead, not for them, but for ourselves. And it’s those who start with “why” that have the ability to inspire those around them or find others who inspire them.
